how to block (or unblock) someone on Spotify

Do you want to stop other Spotify users from seeing your profile and activity? Here’s how to block (or unblock) someone on Spotify.

Some friendships don’t last forever. One day you can be besties, and the next day sworn enemies. One day you can send someone a Spotify playlist you made just for them, and the next day you want to make sure that they can’t ever see anything you’re playing on the music streaming app.

If this is the case, you can choose to block another user on Spotify, even if it’s someone you’ve previously been following or who has been following you. You can also block people that you’ve never followed if there’s someone on Spotify that you don’t want to be able to interact with your account.

Blocking accounts on Spotify is simple to do, although unblocking people can be a little more challenging, especially if you’re using the desktop app. Here’s how to block (or unblock) on Spotify.

You can block as many followers as you wish but you’ll need to do each one in turn; there’s no way to block multiple followers at once.

  1. Launch the Spotify desktop app.

What Does Blocking Someone on Spotify Do?

What does blocking someone on Spotify actually mean? Blocking a profile has a number of effects. Firstly, it means that the person you block will no longer be able to see your profile. When they search for you, your profile page won’t load.

Secondly, they won’t be able to follow you; if they were already following you, they will be removed as a follower. It’s important to note that if you do unblock someone at a later date, and they were following you when you blocked them, they won’t automatically return to following you when they’re unblocked. They’ll need to opt follow you again.

Thirdly, a blocked account will no longer be able to see your listening history so they can’t tell what music you’re listening to.

There are some things that blocking doesn’t do, however. If you have any public playlists, blocking someone won’t limit their ability to see these playlists. If you want to keep your playlists hidden from this person, you’ll need to change them to private playlists instead.
